Young model inspires others with confidence and determination

The local model shares encouraging advice to aspiring models.

Ntokozo Gqolodashe (16) recently shared inspiring moments from his modelling journey and how the industry helped him grow in confidence.

Born and raised in Ivory Park, Thembisa, Gqolodashe began modelling at the age of 14 as a way to build his self-confidence and overcome his fear of public speaking.

He admitted the journey was not always easy, especially in the beginning when he struggled with walking techniques and maintaining balance on the runway.

However, with the guidance and support of his coaches, Yonela Nxumalo and Tetelo Mohale, he steadily improved.

Gqolodashe said modelling has taught him valuable life lessons and inspired him to become a positive example in his community. He added that his journey is not only about being seen, but also about showing others what is possible through hard work and determination.

“Modelling has taught me that confidence is a skill and failure is just another stepping stone to greatness,” he said.

He explained that he was often compared to other models and judged by people around him, but staying focused on his goals and investing in his passion kept him motivated.

After consistently sharing his pageantry journey on social media, Miss Teenager Gauteng approached him and announced him as the pageant’s co-director in April 2026.

“I never thought that with just three years’ experience I would be where I am today. I am so proud and grateful,” said Gqolodashe.

His responsibilities as co-director include running events, training contestants and helping build their confidence.

Gqolodashe encouraged aspiring models to remain confident despite criticism and comparisons, and to never allow their backgrounds to define their futures.
