Kempton Park woman marks 29th birthday with toiletries drive for those in need
Resident organize toiletries drive as part of her 29th birthday celebrated in September.
As she prepares to celebrate her 29th birthday in September, Kempton Park resident Botshelo Gaboutlwelwe is marking the occasion in a meaningful way.
She is launching a toiletries drive aimed at supporting people in need, and in doing so, restoring dignity through access to basic hygiene products.
Gaboutlwelwe said the initiative was inspired by her personal life experiences.

This included growing up without access to essential toiletries such as sanitary pads after being raised by her uncle following the passing of her mother.
She said this experience shaped her understanding of the challenges many people still face today.
“I also wanted it to be more than just a day for my birthday as it has always been, but in a different way this year,” she said.
“Most people struggle to afford basic toiletries, so I decided to use this milestone to give back and help where I can.
“My purpose is to restore dignity and support people in need through basic necessities, something simple that can make a huge difference in someone’s daily life.”

The drive will collect a range of essential hygiene items, including sanitary pads of all sizes, toothpaste, roll-on deodorant, bars of soap and other personal care products.
Gaboutlwelwe is calling on the community, businesses and individuals to contribute, either through donations or by sharing the campaign on social media.
She said the donations will be distributed to schools and shelters, with the final beneficiary organisations still to be confirmed.
She is also open to community recommendations of schools and shelters in need of support. Individuals facing financial difficulties in the community will also benefit from the initiative.
“I believe community initiatives bring people together and remind us that we can make a difference when we stand together,” she said.
“Even small acts can have a big impact. I hope it brings comfort, dignity and hope to those in need of essentials, and also inspires others to give back.”
Gaboutlwelwe added that she hopes to continue the initiative in future, depending on available support and resources.

“Giving back to the community means helping people with love, kindness and care, especially those who are struggling or cannot always provide for themselves,” she said.
“It makes me happy to know that even small initiatives can restore dignity, confidence and hope, especially for boys and girls. I believe a strong community is built when we support one another.”
Donations can be dropped off at Youngstars Educational Centre, 5 Oorbietjie Street, Kempton Park.
