SASSA warns grant recipients to complete mandatory reviews

Beneficiaries who received payments on the fourth payment day are urged to visit their nearest SASSA office.

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has reminded social grant beneficiaries who received their grants on the fourth payment day to visit their nearest SASSA office and complete their mandatory grant reviews.

The agency introduced the fourth payment day for beneficiaries across all grant types who have been identified for grant reviews or eLife Certification.

Those paid on July 7 are required to complete the review process to avoid having their grants suspended during the next payment cycle.

SASSA national spokesperson Dr Paseka Letsatsi said the agency had noted that some beneficiaries were still unfamiliar with the fourth payment day and became concerned when they did not receive their grants during the normal three-day payment cycle, despite having been notified.

“This month, for example, we paid Older Persons Grants on July 2, Disability Grants on July 3 and Children’s Grants on July 6. Beneficiaries who still needed to have their social grants reviewed or undergo eLife Certification were paid on July 7, which is what we refer to as the fourth payment day,” he said.

Letsatsi urged beneficiaries to respond promptly to SMS notifications requesting them to undergo a grant review or complete verification through the eLife Certification self-service portal.

“We also appeal to beneficiaries to inform SASSA whenever their contact details or residential address change because we use the information captured when a person first applies for a grant.

“If your personal details change and you do not notify us, we will continue sending communication to the contact number or address on our records, believing that you will receive it,” he said.

SASSA said grant reviews and eLife Certification are legal requirements to confirm beneficiaries remain eligible for social assistance. The process also helps prevent fraud, update beneficiary information and protect public funds.

The agency confirmed the following August payment dates:

  • August 4: Older Persons Grants
  • August 5: Disability Grants
  • August 6: Children’s Grants
  • August 7: Fourth payment day for beneficiaries identified for grant reviews or eLife Certification.

SASSA said it remains committed to ensuring eligible beneficiaries receive their grants while safeguarding the integrity of the social assistance system.
