Wynand Marais Seniors Citizens Club hosts Bingo Day
Community members gathered for a fun day.
The community of Kempton Park and neighbouring areas, together with members of the Wynand Marais Seniors Citizens Club, gathered for a Bingo Day at Wynand Marais Hall on September 26 to celebrate, have fun with family and friends and stand a chance to win some money.
Wynand Marais Hall was filled with laughter, joy, happiness and a winning spirit as players participated in a total of 10 games, giving all attendees a chance to win. Attendees also took part in a lucky draw, with winners receiving different gift packages.

“The purpose of Bingo Day is to inform the general public that there is a place where the elderly/seniors can meet on a weekly basis and have a wonderful day mixing with others their age for a minimal cost,” said Wynand Marais Seniors Citizens Club events coordinator Charmaine Labuschagne.

The Bingo Day was well supported, with approximately 100 people attending. The attendees enjoyed five games of bingo before having lunch and had a chance to connect, chat and build relationships.
Different members won once, while others won twice. In instances where two or more winners had the same winning number at the same time, the winners each had to draw a number, with the person who drew the highest number being declared the winner.
“I sometimes come for the Bingo Days, but today I needed to come for my friend. I enjoyed the games. We do not come with the hope of winning; we come to enjoy, have a good time and be with all our friends.
“I have been missing out by one number mostly, hence I couldn’t win. Although I wanted to win, I just wanted to also have fun, and I did,” shared Wynand Marais Seniors Citizens Club member Pungie Gounder.

According to the club, there are generally no challenges for the committee in organising the event because members become involved and provide food for the day and prizes for the raffle.
The club hosts Bingo Day twice a year, and both days were a success. According to the club, both days attracted more members of the public than previously achieved, and membership has increased since the last open meeting as a result of visitors attending.
