Paperless classrooms – who is responsible for security of tablets?

Since the launch of the Big Switch On project in January, the Gauteng Department of Education announced it will install additional security features on the 88 000 tablets distributed to seven Gauteng schools.

“The GDE has noted with concern media reports suggesting that the department will completely withdraw the 88 000 tablets distributed to schools as a result of these tablets being stolen from schools. This is incorrect,” said Gauteng Department of Education’s spokesperson, Phumla Sekhonyane.
