ADT officer accused of reckless driving
'We were forced off the road so he could pass without hitting the oncoming cars head-on'

This might not seem like a lot but when it comes to being pushed off the road by ADT, then the safety of a loved one and I becomes a lot more than just another day on the road.
On August 10 at 1.41pm, returning from the outdoor show at Nasrec, we got the shock of our lives while travelling on the R23 towards Kempton Park in a queue of cars believing to be travelling as one group.
We got to a sharp bend to the left when out of nowhere a driver in a blue Mercedes just came flying by all four vehicles (including us), entering the bend. He missed a gold Polo by less than a meter.
Still not believing that we almost got involved in an ugly accident, the unthinkable happened. The driver of an ADT Nissan bakkie did the same without his emergency lights on. We were forced off the road so he could pass without hitting the oncoming cars head-on.
At a traffic light linking the R23 and Pretoria Road, we caught up with this ADT vehicle. I took a photograph of the registration number. While doing this the driver turned around, laughing and throwing his hands in the air as to say, “Take a photo, I don’t care”.
Joining him in doing this was the passenger. I shouted at him that I was going to report him.
And this is what I did. Like any dangerous road related matter, when reporting something like this, the person on the other side of the call always says “Please give me your details, I will get my manager to call you back”.
My call was made on Monday, August 11 at 8.02am and yes, no-one has phoned me back.
This just shows how unsafe ADT drivers can be. How can the company allow this matter to go unattended?
Clive Humphrey, managing director ADT central region replies:
Firstly, we would like to thank the motorist for bringing this incident to our attention.
As a business we have adopted a philosophy of zero harm and we will not condone any form of reckless driving or behaviour which endangers any members of the public, our customers or our own staff.
We have taken this incident very seriously and have identified the officer involved.
We are carrying out a full investigation, which includes obtaining a formal statement from the officer. As soon as this is completed we would be happy to share the outcome with the parties involved.
