Development destroys breeding area
Was an environmental impact study done?

At the corner of Atlas Road and the entry road into Oliver Tambo Airport, there is, on both sides of the entry road, a swamp where seagulls breed.
Passing this area today I noticed there is heavy construction work in the swamp area, ie filling up the whole swamp and destroying the breeding area of the seagulls.
To my knowledge this is the only place in SA where a colony of seagulls exist away from the ocean. It really is a crying pity to destroy their breeding area.
I cannot think that any environmental impact study for that swamp site will approve the destruction of this breeding ground which will severely impact on the breeding cycle of the seagulls.
