Over the years many motorists have engaged myself on matters highlighting a long list of frustrations. The Democratic Alliance Ward 13 branch has also highlighted these issues as a major concern and frustration for the Birch Acres community.
To address community concerns over congestion on Kwartel Road, a motion to council was considered during the July 2014 council meeting with council accepting that the widening of Kwartel Road and Pongolarivier Drive would be done during the 2015/2016 financial year. This will manage the volumes of traffic, especially during peak hours.
The approved July 31 council minutes are very clear and specific on the timeline as highlighted by Disgruntled Kwartel Road User in the letter dated August 17.
Furthermore, a community petition requesting Ekurhuleni council to take firm steps in increasing visible traffic policing had been submitted to council. The petition is very clear and specific on lawlessness by drivers, especially taxi drivers, who seem to have the perception that they are above the law while law enforcing agencies fail to take action.
Communities need to engage the council by ensuring these community related actions, placed on the Ekurhuleni council, is given effect.
