Now what is this city?

'I am also not sure where the Ekurhuleni city centre is'

MARYNA KOEKEMOER of Birch Acres writes:

I am a very confused individual. I have just received the Telkom telephone directory and printed on the front of it, is The City of Ekurhuleni.

I understood Ekurhuleni to be a metro. According to the Oxford Dictionary a metro is an underground railway system and a metropolis is either the chief city of a country or a centre of activity.

Now, if Ekurhuleni has become a city, what are Alberton, Benoni, Boksburg, Brakpan, Edenvale, Daveyton, Etwatwa, Katlehong, Tembisa, Thokoza and Tsakane? Are they now all townships?

I am also not sure where the Ekurhuleni city centre is.

I would much appreciate it if somebody from the mayor’s office could clarify this for me.
