Contractor blamed for filling Edleen fountain

The fountain on Pretoria Road has also been repaired

A Very, Very Frustrated Resident of Norkem Park writes:

I as a resident have a complaint with regards to the implementation of water restrictions by Ekurhuleni Metro.

The metro must practise what it preaches and not be an organisation that says do as I say and not as I do.

On Monday, January 9 the water fountain at the Edleen circle was drained of all its water and cleaned by a worker. The fountain was then refilled to capacity and water sprays merrily.

The fountain situated at the corner of Pretoria Road and Albatross Street has been pumping water and overflowing into the street for months. Take note, as a home owner I am not allowed to fill my swimming pool or use more than 20kl a month, otherwise a fine is waiting.

Where is the justice and fair play? Some manager in the metro is not doing their job properly, no wonder the savings targets that have been issued by national government cannot be met.

Themba Gadebe, metro spokesman, replies:

The contractor was appointed to do the maintenance of fountains. He was instructed not to fill fountains but unfortunately did not adhere to the instruction.

He has already been reprimanded and given a copy of the water restriction bulletin of council.

The fountain on Pretoria Road has been repaired and the overflow has stopped. The valve controlling the water level was stolen but has now been repaired.
