Viking brings back old memories

What happened to the plane at Emperors?

PENSIONER AT LARGE writes:

Having read your article on the Viking it brought back lots of memories.

Firstly, can anybody remember what happened to the plane that was at Caesars before it became Emperors Palace?

I think it was a Shackleton. It was mounted on a wall which was removed and replaced with cinemas.

Secondly, when I was at the Natal Technical College in the 1950s, we had at the school the air force cadets. The only school in the country to have that – all the other schools had army cadets.

We used to fly from Congella to Richards Bay on a Sunderland, which was a flying boat. In those days Richards Bay consisted of a hotel and trading store and Congella was an air force base.
