Resident warns about dog poisoning before break-ins

All of this has been reported to the police in order for them to see how these culprits operate from area to area.

KOOS VAN NIEKERK of Terenure ext 16 writes:

On Sunday morning, February 5 around 8am, my son informed me my dog was lying dead in the front yard.

Well, at first I didn’t think much of it as the dog was kind of old and we all have to go some time or the other.

But after looking for the other dog, we found he was dead as well. In this case it was still a very young dog.

At this point, I realised something terrible was wrong and on further investigation, found that all the dogs were poisoned.

I have read in your paper that this happened in other areas some time back but it didn’t bother me much. I mean, I have been staying here for over 20 years and had no trouble of this kind before.

All of a sudden this evil method of killing animals to gain access to a person’s property to enrich oneself has reared its head.

These pets become like your own children and should be treated as such.

To my shock, I found out that the next door neighbour’s dog had also been poisoned and, even worse, their next door neighbour’s dog as well, two weeks prior to this incident. This makes me think this was never reported. And I believe they had a break-in just after the dogs were poisoned.

My dogs were poisoned on Sunday the 5th and, during the early hours of Monday the 6th, I myself had a break-in in my storeroom where a considerable amount of items were stolen.

All of this has been reported to the police in order for them to see how these culprits operate from area to area and the tactics being used to gain access to your property.

So my message here is: never think it cannot happen to you, as it just might be a matter of time, so be prepared.

Since the above incident, another house was targeted on Wednesday the 8th on the same street.

Where will this all end you might ask? It won’t, for the mere reason that no punishment fits any crime whatsoever in this country.
