It is with great regret that as a long-standing and full-paying resident of Norkem Park I have to write a letter like this.
There is intention to increase the rates and taxes, yet I have concerns over the following:
1. The mess outside and the continuous dumping of rubbish outside McDonald’s is shocking and nothing is being done about this. This is a health risk to the fast food chain and anyone who wishes to eat there.

Further, the loiterers there are taking junk out of the dumping and trying to sell it on the side of the road, which looks disgusting. The metro police are quite happy to fine the vehicles that are parked nicely and cleanly, but they never ever chase or fine those who are selling absolute junk right under a “No hawking” sign.
There is also a fine for dumping of R3 000, according to a sign there, but this is never enforced. What do visitors think when they drive past McDonald’s and all they see is a dump site which has now made its way onto the road?
2. Rubbish is not collected as per the removal days. All the staff is good for is coming to ask for Christmas tips.

3. Potholes in all the roads, Martin Prinsloo Avenue included, are just being filled with rocks.
4. Veld and public park areas are not being cut and maintained. Why not?
These issues are ongoing, so before worrying about increasing everyone’s rates and taxes, maybe the municipality needs to start offering the services it’s paid for.
