Long grass nearly causes accident

Who should look after sidewalks?

LIZA-ANNE JOUBERT writes:

Who is responsible for keeping sidewalks clear?

I nearly had an accident on the corner of Korhaan and Bokmakierie streets in Birch Acres as you cannot see cars approaching from the Korhaan side.

There is a house on a corner. Part of the sidewalk is being kept up but the corner part is left unattended.

Themba Gadebe, metro spokesman, replies:

The City of Ekurhuleni belongs to all those who live in it, thus all should share in the responsibility to keep it neat and tidy.

Residents can plant grass, trees and shrubs on sidewalks but are not permitted to prune trees or remove them.

Please note that the query regarding this specific sidewalk will be attended to.
