Where have the murals gone?

I was driving along De Villiers Street as usual and noticed that two murals of a townhouse complex (on your right when you drive in the direction of Edleen) are now blank.
Some time ago they were painted in stunning, vibrant colours. What made them stand out, was that they had perspective.
The waves stood out about 10cm and the ship in all its picturesque glory also stood out some centimetres.
Unfortunately the colour paint has gone. I don’t know where but now the mural looks terrible and is no longer awe inspiring.
Did somebody make an arbitrary decision or did all the residents agree? I am sure that the properties have gone down in value with that stupendous decision.
Maybe there is a valid reason for the debacle, I do not know but it does intrigue me nevertheless.
