KIM from Edleen writes:
This letter of sincere gratitude follows on the alarmingly, increasing rate of the murder and injuries sustained in the line of duty of officers and security reaction officers, who risk their lives every day for our community.
We are always quick to criticise but slow to give thanks.
Thank you to Norkem Park SAPS, SAPS explosive unit and Alpha Security.
After receiving several disturbing messages and phone calls regarding a situation in Edleen on the morning of May 28, I went to the given address and determined help was urgently needed.
I cannot disclose the details as it is an ongoing investigation.
Thank you not only from me but also on behalf of residents and others, who witnessed the situation, to Col Tobie Strauss at Norkem Park Police Station, as well as W/O Steyn who, upon receiving my phone call, immediately reacted and dispatched the relevant units.
In the meantime I happened to see a police vehicle passing and flagged him down. The best of all was that W/O Mokete Nyama from the explosives unit did not hesitate to stop and assist me, even though the situation did not fall under his unit.
This is truly going above and beyond the call of duty, I cannot thank you enough.
I also placed a phone call to Alpha Security, explained the situation to controller Heidi Kruger, who immediately dispatched not one but two reaction vehicles to assist and to stand down on the scene with me until the relevant authorities arrived.
I extend my thanks to Heidi Kruger, reaction officer Solomon Nkuna and reaction officer Daniel Moloto for their quick response, willingness to always assist the community, constant follow up and outstanding service. Alpha Security never left my side.
A huge thank you to Sgt Matlou and Const Nukeri from Norkem Park SAPS who arrived shortly thereafter and took control of the situation. They were quick, efficient and decisive as to what action needed to be taken.
They dealt with a delicate situation with such care and so professionally. I would also like to thank Capt Skhosana and Capt Moya, who immediately attended to the situation when I arrived at Norkem Park Police Station, without hesitation and with extreme sensitivity.
Each and everyone of these outstanding people should be proud of the service, care, kindness and willingness to put their own lives in danger to protect us each and every day, but more so we as the public should be proud of them and give them the recognition and thanks they deserve.
May the Lord watch over you and bless you all. I salute you.
