I want to express my outrage over this power outage in Norkem Park. I’m getting fed up with this nonsense.
Whenever there is a cable theft, or some substation explodes in Kempton Park, Norkem Park is always affected.
I fail to understand how it is so hard and apparently extremely difficult for the municipality to switch Norkem Park over to another power grid.
This is the fourth time there is a power outage in Norkem Park for such a long period of time due to cable theft. Yet it seems that there’s no contingency plan in place.
What also concerns me is the fact that the municipality has these big generators mounted on trucks that can be used to power an entire suburb but they have not thought to utilise it for Norkem Park.
And since the power outage occurred, not one single EMPD vehicle was seen patrolling at night in the affected areas to increase visibility. But then again, the EMPD in Kempton Park does not work night shift, or during the day for that matter.
There is no open line of communication between the “oh so wonderful municipality” and us. Their so-called call centre just does not answer the phones.
Neither the municipality nor the DA have thought of it to establish a JOC [joint operations cente] during this power outage where we can call at for information. We, as the residents, have to talk among each other to get information.
And since we keep on voting for the DA, for which ever reason I don’t understand, there’s no response from the DA ward councillor in Norkem Park. He/she is completely absent in this ordeal. No communication of any kind from him/her.
