Lack of maintenance cause Glen Marais substation fire

A lot of damage has been done because of this, to people’s businesses and personal belongings.

With regard to the burning of the substation, I think it’s a lack of maintenance that got us in this situation.

Cable theft does not cause a fire in a substation. Lack of maintenance on the switch gear, oil purification on the transformers and regular inspection on the substations do. A lot of damage has been done because of this, to people’s businesses and personal belongings. Where is our money going? Definitely not to the right department to do their jobs.

Another aspect is, where are the fire suppression systems that need to activate when a fire is present in a substation, surely this is a legal requirement?

Isn’t there any early warning fire/smoke detectors that should have been activated that would have minimised the damage caused by this fire?
