Letter: Resident slams Ekurhuleni municipality over potholes, maintenance failures

A reader has criticised the City of Ekurhuleni for poor maintenance, citing potholes, faulty streetlights and missing signage, and alleged employee fraud.

EDITOR: Thank you for the excellent front-page article ‘Potholes remain a problem’.

The overall lack of maintenance, from street markings and signage to streetlights and potholes, is a disgrace.

As Clr Lapping correctly stated, municipal employees are guilty of blatant fraud.

They accept payment for work they do not do, and are paid performance bonuses on top of that.

The overall lack of maintenance, from street markings and signage to streetlights and potholes, to name a few, is a disgrace.

As Clr Lapping correctly stated, municipal employees are guilty of blatant fraud.

They accept payment for work they do not do, and are paid performance bonuses on top of that.

The blame must be placed on the senior management of these officials, who condone and authorise payments that are tantamount to a waste of taxpayers’ money, paying for services that are not received.

Keep up the good work of exposing this abuse of authority, even though the municipality shows contempt by failing to respond to The Kempton Express.

Continuous reminders of the incompetence of this municipality may awaken the voters to oust this lot at the next election.
