Cricketer to play international
Stals was also a prefect at both schools and was deputy head boy at Aston Manor
A Kempton Park cricketer, Neil Stals (34), has been selected for the South African indoor/action cricket team (over 30) which will play in the world series tournament from October 20-26 at his home ground, the Sandton indoor cricket arena.
His dad, Allan, said being selected was an outstanding achievement as he tore ligaments in his one knee.
“After three reconstruction operations Neil worked hard to regain fitness in time for the world cup.”
At the tournament, the strongest contenders to Stals’ team are Australia and New Zealand.
Stals, currently working for DHL in Kempton Park, has been born and bred a Kempton Park boy and had been a keen sportsman his whole life.
At school at Aston Manor Primary and Sir Pierre van Ryneveld, he played first team rugby, football and cricket. He received provincial colours in football and captained the provincial junior schools team. He also got provincial colours for baseball, softball and cricket.
Stals was also a prefect at both schools and was deputy head boy at Aston Manor.
After school he played outdoor cricket for 10 years at Kempton Park Cricket Club before joining the teams at the Sandton arena.
