Good win for premier XI before big clash

The best bowler was Peter Zandberg (5/27)

IT was a very good weekend for Kempton Park Cricket Club’s senior teams.

The Saturday first A side defeated Benoni Northerns by three wickets. Benoni batted first and scored 202/8 in their 35 overs.

The best bowlers for Kempton were Brett Luck (2/34) and Howard Harnecki (2/28).

Kempton chased down the target of 203 in 29 overs. Josh Wilken (43), Brett Luck (43) and Gavin Ralph (27*) were the standout performers with the bat.

The Kempton B side (Renegades) defeated CBC old by eight wickets. CBC batted first and were bowled out for 179.

The best bowler was Peter Zandberg (5/27). Kempton then chased down the target of 180 in just 26 overs.

Wesley Marshall (99*) and Wynand Hefer (56) ensured they comfortably reached their target. Kempton now occupy the top three spots in the Saturday first league.

On Sunday the premier team travelled to newly promoted United Cricket Club. Kempton skipper Johan Fourie won the toss and sent United in to bat on a very good looking wicket.

The United batsmen started off very circumspect and were batting at under three runs per over, mainly due to the fact that the Kempton bowlers stuck to bowling very good one day lines.

It was very slow going for United who lacked intent and just seemed happy with batting out their full 50 overs, which they did, and were restricted to 161/7.

It was an all round great bowling performance from the Kempton bowlers, David Jacobs (2/23) Nico de Klerk (2/24) and new signing Robert Mutch (2/16).

Kempton then set out in pursuit of the target in a typically aggressive but controlled manner with openers Wesley Marshall (50) and Wynand Hefer (26) not letting the United bowlers settle in.

After the loss of Hefer, Easterns middle order batsman, Jurie Snyman, walked to the wicket and along with Marshall guided Kempton to within touching distance of the total.

Snyman played a very composed and mature knock of 72* to guide Kempton to the target inside 35 overs to secure their fifth bonus point victory of the season.

“It was a very satisfying victory for us. Bolwers stuck to their guns and the batters showed a lot of maturity,” said Fourie.

Kempton will welcome reigning champions Benoni Northerns to Barnard Stadium on Sunday for a top of the table clash which promises to be a mouthwatering encounter.

First ball will be bowled at 9.30am.

The promotion team also secured a hard fought victory against top of the table Nigel on Sunday. Kempton won the toss and sent Nigel in to bat.

They managed to score 223 before being bowled out. The pick of the bowlers were Gavin Ralph (3/34), Howard Harnecki (3/41) and Josh Wilken (2/36).

Kempton soon found themselves in trouble at 59/4 in pursuit of the target but up stood Dirk Pio (80*) and Nic Moragemos (65), who put together a match-winning stand of 140 to guide them home with two balls to spare.
