Two days of dust and drama ahead for rally fans
There will be 11 special stages covering some 170km of timed racing
MOTOR sport fans will have their first opportunity to see top-class racing when the third round of the SA National Rally Championship stirs up the dust and dirt of the mealie-fields in the Bapsfontein area on May 23 and 24.
Tailor-made to afford enthusiasts maximum spectating opportunities, the traditionally compact Pretoria Motor Club (PMC) Gauteng Rally will be centred around the RallyStar Motorsport Academy near Bapsfontein, which will host the start and finish on both days, as well as the service area.
There will be 11 special stages covering some 170km of timed racing. All but two of the stages will be within walking distance of RallyStar, with much of the event taking place on RallyStar’s property.
“We have retained the traditional special stages in and around RallyStar that allow us to keep the event compact and within easy reach of spectators,” said route director and chairman of the organising committee, Leon Botha, a former leading rally driver and founder of RallyStar.
“The popular super special, where the cars race each other in pairs, will again be a major feature and will close proceedings on both days. We have gone out of our way this year to ensure that spectators can base themselves at RallyStar within walking distance of all of the stages.
“From 10am on Saturday until the rally ends between 2pm and 2.30pm, there will be non-stop action and excitement on the different stages within RallyStar.”
Those wishing to park outside RallyStar will be charged R30 entry a person for access to special viewing areas. Another option is to park inside the premises at R100 a car, which will allow free access to special spectator areas.
The traditional open areas next to special stages outside RallyStar will still be open to the public free of charge.
Special VIP packages are available which will allow 10 vehicles with up to four occupants each to park at RallyStar and view the action from VIP areas, offering food and drinks throughout the event. Companies who purchase four or more VIP packages may set up a gazebo and their own hospitality area.
Friday’s action will start at 10am with the first of the day’s five special stages and will end with the first of the rally’s two super specials.
The first of Saturday’s six special stages will get underway from RallyStar at 9am with the second super special ending proceedings.
Fans are requested to get to the RallyStar venue early to ensure good viewing points.
