Local golfers selected for tournament

Besides the financial reward, the pride of Tembisa and Ekurhuleni will be at stake for the Tembisa Golf Club members who will be participating.

The cream of Tembisa golf will be heading to Potchefstroom on August 30, to play against two teams from the Merafong Golf Association.

Besides the financial reward, the pride of Tembisa and Ekurhuleni will be at stake for the Tembisa Golf Club members who will be participating.

The executive committee of the Tembisa Golf Club was hard at work this past Saturday in the Kempton Park Country Club boardroom, selecting the 12 best Tembisa golfers to represent the club in Potchefstroom.

Tembisa Golf Club’s organising secretary, Mr Benjamin Monyanyedi, said it was not tough to assemble a solid 12-man team with three reserves.

According to Mr Monyanyedi, Tembisa is undoubtedly one of the leading golfing townships.

“So far, Tembisa has beaten the likes of Alexandra twice in a row and they will not even consider playing against us soon as they were beaten convincingly in the two games played at different golf courses. The Merafong golf association is a closed book, however our strategy as a club has been to field players that we know do not easily crumble under pressure. Most of them are indeed astute masters of this game and we are sure if seven of the 12 selected players win all their matches, we will be home and dry,” said Mr Monyanyedi.

The club is planning a braai in September.

Winning the competition carries a lucrative R12 000 winner-takes-all prize.

Francis Tsotetsi, Joseph Makati, Themba Mazibuko, Stewart Mabena, Tana Mowela, Harry Mthembu, Joe Ngoma, Tavin Govender, Kakapa Sibandze, Mporo Mathiyase, George Mokela and Themba Mazwi make up the 12-man team competing in the tournament.

Andries Maenetja, Reuben Motsomotso and Fati Boshielo are the three reserves
