Team takes the double

This U/15 Birch Acres FC side was just too strong for their opponents this season.

BIRCH Acres Football Club’s U/15 team has reason to be very proud this season.

The youngsters won both the Easterns Local Football Association (ELFA) cup final and became league winners with one game in hand.

Coach Samuel Maluleka is a proud man, saying his team has achieved the almost impossible this year by taking the double.

The team won the cup final at the Canova Stadium in Bedfordview on September 20. They beat old rivals Old Parks 2-1 in their backyard to claim the coveted trophy.

During an earlier league game the Birch Acres team was also too strong for Old Park, beating them 2-1 at the Mehlareng Stadium in Tembisa.

After the cup victory, the side started chasing league honours, having collected 45 points in an unbeaten run. They won both their next league fixtures, beating Germiston 7-1 and Luso Africa 2-0. This left Old Parks in second place with 37 points, with four games in hand. Birch Acres comfortably sat on 51 points, making it impossible for Old Parks to claim to league.
