Local golfer has his sights set on Team SA
This promises to be a nail-biting two-day challenge for this talented local golfer
KEMPTON Park resident and amateur golfer, Herman Potgieter, displayed his skill at the Johannesburg regional qualifier in the 21st World Amateur Golfers Championship when he secured a winning spot in the SA National Final.
The first elimination teed off to an exciting start at Glendower Golf Club, where each golfer battled it out in an attempt to secure a winning spot in the top three of their handicap groups. Herman finished ahead of the field by putting on a commanding lead to secure first place in his 11-15 handicap group by finishing on a well-earned 68 nett.

With the first round secured, his sights are now set on the SA National Final to be played at Selborne Hotel, Spa & Golf Estate on the KwaZulu-Natal south coast from November 3 to 5. This promises to be a nail-biting two-day challenge when he will battle it out against the regional winners from Durban and Cape Town.
The competition will be fierce to claim the one winning spot in each handicap group in order to qualify for the Team SA blazer and win an all-expense-paid trip of a lifetime to the 21st World Final in Turkey next month.
“The Johannesburg qualifier has set the ball in motion for an exciting elimination process for this year’s Team SA selection. This is a fantastic opportunity for amateur golfers to showcase their talent in the world’s largest amateur golf tournament. We are looking forward to the SA National Final to see who will be representing South Africa as the defending champions at the 21st World Final in Turkey from November 27 to December 5,” said Arthur Mzimela of World Golf Events SA and Team SA captain.
