Kempton premier XI trounce defending champions

The promotion side recorded a massive 183-run victory

KEMPTON Park Cricket Club’s premier XI made it six from six with a bonus point victory over defending champions, Benoni Northerns on Sunday.

Skipper Johan Fourie won the toss and elected to bat first on a typically flat Barnard Stadium wicket.

The full strength Kempton outfit, boasting Titans all rounder Grant Thomson, flayed the Northerns bowling attack to all parts of the ground. A healthy opening stand between Wesley Marshall (122) and Casey Arnold (44) set the tone for the big hitters.

At the end of the innings a few lusty blows from the big hitting Jurie Snyman (50) ensured that Kempton posted a healthy 302/9 in their allotted 50 overs.

Kempton knew they would have to bowl well to restrict the powerful Benoni Northerns batting line-up. They did just that and the Northerns batting line-up was no match for the Kempton outfit as they skittled Northerns for 199 after some stubborn resistance from tail-enders.

Snyman (3/40) and Arnold (2/14) did the damage with the ball.

The promotion side faced Daveyton at home on Sunday and recorded a massive 183-run victory.

Kempton batted first and posted 305/9 in their 50 overs. Opener Wynand Hefer (89) and skipper Lee Coetzee (54) led the charge with the bat.

Daveyton were then bowled out for 122 in 29 overs. Fast bowler Gavin Ralph returned figures of 3/32 in 10 overs and Dean Visser made it 10 sticks in two games as he followed his six wickets last week, taking 4/10 in four overs.

The director’s side fixture pitted the two Kempton sides against each other and it really was a thriller. Kempton A batted first and posted 300 all out in 43 overs. JD Beetge made 105.

Kempton B chased down the target with four wickets down in the 47th over. Hassan Ali (126*) steered the B side to a comprehensive six-wicket victory.
