Sgodi FC clinches 1-0 victory
After the second goal, Sgodi FC players kept the ball well and made sure no goals were conceded to the opposition.
A top 4 tournament was staged at the Phomolong Sports Grounds over the weekend, when Sgodi FC claimed victory in the final match on Sunday.
The four participating teams were Sgodi FC, Umlilo, Giant Killers and Alexandra FC.
Sgodi FC played its first game against Umlilo, which was a tough opponent according to Sgodi FC’s managing director Tshoke Kgatle.
“We knew from the beginning that it wasn’t going to be easy. We fielded most of our experienced players and that worked for us as we were the ones to secure the first goal through Simphiwe ‘Daka’ Nhlapho in the 35th minute, followed by another goal from Daka in the second half.
“We stuck with our game plan of not losing possession just to frustrate them,” said Mr Kgatle.
He said after the second goal, Sgodi FC players kept the ball well and made sure no goals were conceded to the opposition. The game ended with a final score of 2-0, in favour of Sgodi FC.
In the semi-finals, which were played on Sunday, Sgodi FC took on Alexandra in the morning.
Alexandra scored first and led 1-0 until the 20th minute, when Simphiwe ‘Daka’ Nhlapo scored an equaliser.
In the second half, the experienced Daka scored his second goal of the match.
The introduction of a young striker by the name of Sailor Molefe put Sgodi FC in front, when he scored a goal soon after taking to the field. His goal saw Sgodi FC leading 3-1.
Sgodi FC strengthened its attack, which saw Itumeleng Chippa netting the fourth goal, resulting in a 4-1 victory for Sgodi FC.
The final match was played against Giant Killers.
“As usual, the team played to its strengths, keeping the ball and skilfully distributing the ball. Once again, Simphiwe ‘Daka’ Nhlapho netted the first and only goal of the final match, which saw Sgodi FC being crowned the champions of the tournament,” said Mr Kgatle.
The score at the end of the final match was 1-0, in favour of Sgodi FC.
