KEMPTON Park Cricket Club’s promotion XI ended the first half of the season on a high to ensure they sit joint at the top of the table with Avion Park, Benoni Northerns and CBC.
Kempton stormed to a convincing eight-wicket victory at home to Bakerton Young Stars on Sunday.
Bakerton won the toss and elected to bat first in very batsmen-friendly conditions. They, however, couldn’t apply themselves and were bowled out cheaply for 71 in 18.4 overs.
Club veteran Wynand Hefer proved his worth with the ball as he picked up his second five-wicket haul in three games as he returned figures of 5/23 in seven overs. He was well supported by big fast bowler Gavin Ralph, who took 4/35 in 9.5 overs.
Kempton then proceeded to chase down the small total of 72 in just 7.3 overs with two wickets down. Opener Brett Luck (20*) watched mostly from the other end as Big Hitting Clayton Ceronio enjoyed his promotion up the order and provided some fireworks as he smashed his way to 47 off just 19 deliveries.
The second half of the season will commence in the second week of January and the club will push forward as all the senior teams are in with a shout of challenging for their respective titles.
