Strydom is number 407 on the world golf ranking list with a handicap of +1
PROFESSIONAL golf player and Kemptonian Ockert Strydom (31) finished third overall in the Eye of Africa PGA Golf Championship at the end of February.
The tournament was hosted at the Eye of Africa Golf and Residential Estate in Alewynspoort, Gauteng, with 156 players from around the world.
Strydom posted two scores on Friday and at the end of a long day he had a 36-hole total of eight under par to show for it with nearly half the field still to complete their second rounds.
He trailed first-round leader Andrew Curlewis and a resurgent Danie van Tonder by two shots, a position he shared with two-time champion Jaco van Zyl, and was, in turn, one stroke ahead of a group on seven under par consisting of Kevin Phelan of Ireland, Zimbabwe’s Mark Williams, Toby Tree of England,Vaughn Groenewald and Garth Mulroy.
“It was tough out there, the wind was not easy, and it played a big role, but overall I would say I really played well all the days and it boosted my confidence as well as my world golf ranking,” said Strydom.
Strydom is number 407 on the world golf ranking list with a handicap of +1.
“This opportunity means a lot to me and my career and I would like to give a special thanks to my coach, Graeme Francis, for all his hard work the last few years, my loving wife for her unstoppable support, I love you to bits, and my caddie, Armando Botes, for the last few tournaments, what a legend.
“Thanks for all your help and the few hard words he gave me after the first seven holes every day,” said Strydom.
Next stop for Strydom is the Zimbabwe Open.
