Strong showing from Tembisa golfers

Tembisa Golf Club's organising secretary, Mr Benjamin Monyanyedi, said Lebo is undoubtedly a protégé for the future.

It all started with a successful trip to Mafikeng during the Easter weekend, where 16 of the best golfers from Tembisa played at the daunting Leopard Park Country Club.

Tembisa golfers were treated to a golfing extravaganza on and off the course thanks to a well-sponsored trip courtesy of the great son of Tembisa, Billy Selekane.

His sponsorship made it possible for all 16 Tembisa golfers to enjoy three days of great golfing.

The trip included Lebo Makume from Difateng Section, a young Tembisa development player.

Tembisa Golf Club’s organising secretary, Mr Benjamin Monyanyedi, said Lebo is undoubtedly a protégé for the future.

“He is Tembisa’s Tiger Woods, as long as Serongoane and Molepo who are their development coaches can continue the good work they have been doing with him and the other children in the development programme. There can never be any doubt that the future of Tembisa golf is in a good hands,” he said.

Back from Mafikeng after the Easter weekend, Tembisa headed straight to Potchefstroom to take on a combined team from Merafong.

This was a return match after Tembisa walloped them at home in Kempton Park.

Buoyed by the amount of golf and practice in Mafikeng, it was always going to be tough for the lads from Potchefstroom as Tembisa gave them yet another drubbing in their own back yard.

Tembisa’s club captain expressed fear that very soon Tembisa might not have opponents that will want to compete against them, as Alexandra and Daveyton have now decided to withdraw from the initial arrangement to have all four clubs competing.

“They have had enough of Tembisa’s dominance. Potchefstroom could only manage half a point in their own back yard. It is official – Tembisa is currently the undisputed kings of golf in Ekurhuleni, with Daveyton and Alex withdrawing. At least Merafong still has the belief that they can turn the tide against us,” said Mr Monyanyedi.

This was the beginning of the 2016 Tembisa Golf Club’s programme and it has begun on a high note.
