Every Sunday the Mehlareng Stadium in Tembisa comes alive with activity as soccer fans gather to watch some of their favourite players from yesteryear play the beautiful game.
These local legends have been entertaining crowds and inspiring future players for the past 10 years, and aim to continue doing so for many years to come.
Now, thanks to the assistance of big names like Hollywoodbets, their immediate future is looking much brighter.
This well-known local league, formerly named the Tembisa Masters Social League, will henceforth be known as the Hollywoodbets Tembisa Master League and is made up of 14 different teams.
Big name players like Jerry Sikhosana, Clement Mazibuko, Pollen Ndlanya, Humphrey Mlwane, Jabu Mahlangu, Cavaan Sibeko and Katlego Loke regularly show off their talent on the field.
When Hollywoodbets recently signed on Sikhosana as its first-ever official brand ambassador, the company learnt about this worthy initiative he is involved in and immediately decided to support him.
“At Hollywoodbets we are always looking at ways we can help to uplift the communities we operate in. We therefore sponsor over 70 soccer teams nationwide and have seen how these teams positively impact the communities they are part of.
“Once we learnt about the good work Jerry and the other legends were doing, we couldn’t resist getting involved. These guys are giving up their time in order to inspire the younger generation and we want to help them keep up the good work,” said Wayde Dorkin, the Hollywoodbets soccer brand manager.
In addition to helping with the running costs of the league, Hollywoodbets has also pledged to assist with kit sponsorship as well as prizes and balls.
According to Sikhosana this will be a great help to the league.
“This league is really ploughing back into the community. Every Sunday we see so many people at the grounds who have come to watch us play free of charge. This sponsorship will help to ease the financial burden on the players who have to finance the league themselves,” said Sikhosana.
