Players gear up for winter tournament

Mr Robert Sithagu, the organiser of the games, said the games are aimed at keeping school pupils off the streets during the school holidays.

Local soccer coaches Mr Robert and Mr Obed Sithagu, also known as the Mgeyi brothers, will be hosting the third annual Tembisa Youth Winter Games.

The games will kick off on June 25 and the finals will be played on July 15.

The tournament will take place at the Bokamoso and Makhulong Sports Grounds.

Mr Robert Sithagu, the organiser of the games, said the games are aimed at keeping school pupils off the streets during the school holidays.

“We are trying to keep young people safe from crime. We want youngsters to refrain from engaging in early romantic relationships. At the same time, we hope to expose talent within the young soccer players,” said Mr Sithagu.

The football divisions that are expected to participate in the tournament include the U/11, U/13, U/15, U/17 and U/20 teams.

“We are expecting 16 teams in each division. We are appealing to local soccer teams and those from the surrounding areas to take part. Prizes are available for the first and second place winners in each category,” said Mr Sithagu.

Registration for the tournament closes on June 21.
