Katlehong golfer crowned the new champ at Tembisa Golf Club championships

"Jerry Mosia had a low-key round on the Saturday's first 18 holes, but his sterling 71 gross on Sunday left everyone cold and dry."

The 2016 club championship of the Tembisa Golf Club took place this past weekend at the Kempton Park Country Club.

The annual event is a major competition at the club and continues to attract the best Tembisa golfers.

Dreams were shattered this past weekend as a sterling performance by a man from the south, non-Tembisa golfer Jerry Mosia from Katlehong, came and stole it. He even defeated the Tembisa Golf Club’s tried and trusted trio of two-time defending champion Nzima Tsotetsi, the promising Steward Mabena and the ever-aggressive Joe Makat.

“Jerry Mosia had a low-key round on the Saturday’s first 18 holes, but his sterling 71 gross on Sunday left everyone cold and dry. Mosia is undoubtedly a brilliant golfer and has been threatening all along. This time around he snuck through the back door when least expected. Like Tsotetsi, our erstwhile champ, Mosia is good with his short game and he also drives the ball long and accurately. He is deadly with his putter from around two to three metres and chips the golf ball like he is possessed, a worthy champion indeed,” said the organising secretary of the Tembisa Golf Club, Mr Benjamin Monyanyedi.

Joko Makhoba destroyed the B division with a credible gross score that saw arch rival and friend Mandla Mabaso coming second with the rest of the B division field trailing far behind.

“Yes, it’s official – Tembisa is the home of golf in the Ekurhuleni Metro, hence golfers like Mosia who hail from Katlehong and others are joining the Tembisa Golf Club,” said Mr Monyanyedi.
