Youngsters celebrate Youth Day

Guidance of Leaders Destiny (GOLD) hosted a second annual June 16 youth tournament at the Phomolong Sports Grounds.
Fourteen teams took part in the U/13 tournament.
“We created the tournament to give a platform to young people to showcase their talent,” said the event organiser Mr Thabang Setoaba.
He said they had only one women’s soccer club playing against the boys.
“The girls were able to hold their ground until they were knocked out in the semi-finals.”
Mr Setoaba said the event was a success.
“Three of the participating teenagers were selected by Sundowns scouts to play for the Sundowns Academy U/15 team,” he said.
“Civil Society Organisations advised us to turn this into a league.”
Mr Setoaba said what inspired the event was the need to bring youngsters together during Youth Month.
Lobusa FC was the overall winner of the tournament and went away with a trophy.
Medals were awarded to different teams.
“We want to thank our sponsor, spectators and everyone who made the day possible,” said Mr Setoaba.
