NOVA coach wins award in Italy as best referee
During this prestigious event, teams from all over the world competed against each other
COACH JD du Plessis of NOVA MMA Academy represented South Africa as a referee at the Best Fighter Tournament in Rimini, Italy from June 3-5.
After the three-day event Du Plessis came back with the best referee title.
Not only is he a referee for the World Association of Kickboxing Organisations (WAKO) but was also nominated as a WAKO committee member for Tatami.
During this prestigious event, teams from all over the world competed against each other, including the Ukraine, England, Slovenia, Liechtenstein, Hungary, India, Croatia, Norway, Russia, Greece and Italy.
“It was three days filled with beautiful techniques and great sportsmanship from all the countries. The amount of respect shown by all for their opponents was truly amazing to see,” said Du Plessis.
He said he strived to be the best coach he could be for his students and was looking forward to see South Africa growing in this beautiful sport.
