It is back to training for canoeists

Florida Lake Canoe Club hosted a 30km race from Daleside to Meyerton

DESPITE winter and cold water, Gauteng canoeists have embarked on their training in preparation for the major events, which take place later in the year.

Florida Lake Canoe Club hosted a 30km race from Daleside to Meyerton, on the Klip River, on July 10, to provide paddlers with opportunities to improve fitness, and to give newer paddlers a chance to obtain points and experience before taking on the longer, tougher, bigger races.

Liwalam Ntsiza, a resident in Kempton Park and member of the Benoni-based Ekurhuleni Kayak Club, finished the 30km race in a time of two hours 22 minutes.

Ntsiza has sufficient river race experience and is enjoying the training opportunities provided by the races, to build on fitness.
