Running club honours its top athletes

The prize-giving took place at Dries Niemandt Park in August

TSHWARANO Running Club (TPT), operating at Barnard Stadium, recognised its top performing athletes at a function at Dries Niemandt Park on August 13.

TPT was founded in December 2013 and is doing most of its training at Barnard Stadium. The club is centred on providing a platform for training athletes who belong to different running clubs.

Based on the principal of promoting a healthy lifestyle, the club accommodates all categories of athletes from juniors to masters. TPT’s main focus is developing athletes to achieve their best performances in all disciplines, from track and field, to cross country and road running.

It is a feeding training camp to the Nedbank Running Club and the Nedbank Green Dream Team.

The prize-giving was spearheaded by the chairman, Sylvester Tsholohelo Molusi, with Ludwick Mamabolo as the guest of honour.

These awards will help our athletes to remain motivated and continue to live up to our name of The Podium Team, Molusi said.

Awards went to these athletes:

Overall winner: best athlete of the year: Bester Ngwenya

Short distance runner: Philemon Mothiba (winner of 10km Mandela Race)

Best marathon male runner: Bester Ngwenya

Best female marathon runner: Mulalo Gaza

Podium winners: Alfred Mandji, Sepitle Phaladi, Chauke Mailola, Chami Mailola, Afrika Mailolo, Andrew Mogotlane , Reubin Magakola, Mr “Google” Phumlani Nkosi, Bester Ngwenya, Ludwick Mamabolo.

Special recognition award: Ludwick Mamabolo for his community development initiatives, forming TPT and his achievements at the 2016 Comrades Marathon

Several athletes who finished this year’s Comrades Marathon also received awards.

They were Sylvester Molusi, Nelson Kganyago, Adolph Gaza, Kori Seshoene, Ludwick Mamabolo, Thembi Nhlapo, Mulalo Gaza, Bongani Mabizela, Sihle Basa, Alfred Mandji, Tebogo Dioke, Ashly Kgosi Sineng and Thapedi Mogafe
