Impala supports Tembisa cricketers

New and used equipment such as cricket bats, balls, gloves, leg pads and helmets were donated to Tembisa cricketers.

The members of a young cricket team from Tembisa have big smiles after receiving equipment from a Kempton Park primary school.

Laerskool Impala and the school’s community opened their hearts to support this combined primary school cricket team.

The Tembisa team consists of players from various primary schools in Tembisa and represents the township in the Kempton Park Primary School Cricket League.

“Despite the fact that the team lacked equipment and facilities such as a cricket pitch, the coach and boys have a great passion and enthusiasm for the game,” said Theo Gouws, the principal of Impala.

He said the team players’ character stole the hearts of the Impala community the day Impala played against them,” he said.

With the support of Impala’s head of sport, Christiaan Fourie, the cricket coaches and parents, the school collected more than enough cricket equipment for the Tembisa Combined Cricket Team.

New and used equipment (such as cricket bats, balls, gloves, leg pads and helmets) was collected.

Mr Gouws handed over the donated equipment during a special ceremony by Impala to the Tembisa coach, Michael Rampheng, and captain, Nyiko Kubayi.

“With this donation, Impala hopes to further cricket as a sport in our region. We also hope to further the love amongst youngsters for the game,” said Mr Gouws.
