Pigeons have a quick race from Richmond
The birds for both races were liberated at 6.40am and the skies were clear with a slight north westerly wind
GAUTENG Pigeon Union (GPU) liberated the pigeons from Richmond in the Northern Cape on Saturday, an average distance of 720km for Riverpark Pigeon Club (RPC) members.
There were two races – fanciers could nominate pigeons in both races for the GPU/TRPF (Transvaal Racing Pigeon Federation) combined car race and the second race was the GPU Old Bird national race.
The birds for both races were liberated at 6.40am and the skies were clear with a slight north-westerly wind. For the rest of the race, the winds were mild south-westerly which made for a quick race for the birds.
With this type of wind, the pigeons usually fly high and fast and have a tendency to overshoot the lofts before turning around and coming back. In the Richmond 1 race, the nett flying time was seven hours 33 minutes 21 seconds for the winning pigeon, which equates to a flying speed of 94.5km/h. The top 30 positions on the result sheet were filled in 33 minutes 55 seconds.
The Richmond Race 1 race winner at RPC was Sky Lofts (Corrie Möller and Danalien Snyman), with their first win of the season (also 5th, 18th, 28th and 29th), by a margin of 2 minutes 30 seconds from Nollie de Villiers (also 30th).

In the Richmond 2 race, the nett flying time was seven hours 37 minutes and five seconds, which is 93.8km/h for the winning pigeon. The result sheet for this race took only 26 minutes and 58 seconds to fill the 30 positions.
