Tembisa soccer legend Cavaan Sibeko aims to develop and groom youngsters through soccer.
Sibeko, a former Orlando Pirates and Super Sport United player, is one of the soccer legends in the township who is teaching young people how to play good soccer and obtain life skills.
“Through continues soccer tournaments and friendly games, we are hoping to reach our goal as soccer legends. We are urging youngsters to focus on their education and develop a good, healthy lifestyle through sport,” said Sibeko.
Sibeko, a father of a 10-year old girl, said he would scout new, talented players, using the skills he mastered during his time as a star.
“These youngsters who wish to become soccer stars look up to us as their role models. So, it is up to us to build a better community that is led by young, good leaders. The aim is to see Tembisa growing and having youngsters representing us on national teams, since there is a lot of talent in the area, especially in football,” said Sibeko.
He said all the games they host help the school pupils and youth to keep busy.
“During these games you get to see their excitement, their love and passion for the sport. I am encouraging them to stand up for themselves in order to become the best in whatever they are doing. Young people should learn to love and enjoy the activities that bring their future to light, so that people can see them perform their best,” said Sibeko.
The Temong-based Sibeko said he started playing football at the age of seven, on the street.
After his career in football was ended by a knee injury, he decided to coach a team called Kwazi FC.
He is currently part of the Tembisa Legends Sports Development.
“By developing young people in sport, we are giving back to the community,” said Sibeko.
