Boxing returns to Tembisa
Ditau Molefyane, a retired legend boxer and the organisation’s founder, said through sport they aim to fight the scourge of drugs, teenage pregnancy and HIV.
The Ditau Molefyane Foundation is bringing boxing back to the streets of Tembisa.
The organisation is set to put together many boxing tournaments in the fight against social ills.
Ditau Molefyane, a retired legend boxer and the organisation’s founder, said through sport they aim to fight the scourge of drugs, teenage pregnancy and HIV.
“We also want to promote boxing in schools because we believe sport can play a part in changing the lives of Tembisa youngsters,” said Molefyane.
He said their recent tournament was staged at Sethoga Park on September 24 and 11 boxing clubs took part.
“That was not our last tournament and in the future we are looking to include athletics and indigenous games. I want thank the contributors who made our recent tournament possible.”
The tournament organiser, Mr Kenny Sithagu, said six children who excelled in sport and academics were identified from Mashemong Primary School to receive windbreaker jackets.
“This will encourage them to play sport and focus on education. We would like to thank the Tembisa SAPS for the tournament.”
He said Tembisa parents responded positively by bringing their children to watch boxing and they plan to stage more tournaments eKasi.
“We appeal to local government to get involved in organising these sporting events,” said Mr Sithagu.
He said as a result maybe more children will participate in sport.
