Fun run to raise funds

The fun run will be held at the Olifantsfontein Sports Grounds and will take place from 7am to 4pm.

The Matsheko Early Learning Centre will be hosting its second annual 7km fun run.

The run is open to all community members of Tembisa.

The fun run will be held at the Olifantsfontein Sports Grounds and will take place from 7am to 4pm.

According to the principal of Matsheko Early Learning Centre, Ms Matilda Lebepe, they are hoping to raise funds to buy land for needy children.

“When I started a day care in 1993, it was when I gave birth to my child and did not know where to leave her when I wanted to go back to work. I started a day care centre to look after children, including the needy children. Back then, there was no day care centre in Hospital View,” said Ms Lebepe.

Ms Lebepe said she then registered for Early Childhood Development courses through the University of South Africa (UNISA).

Ms Lebepe holds a Diploma in Early Childhood Development and is currently studying a Bachelor’s Degree.

“I named the centre after my child because it was her who made me start the centre. We are presently overloaded in the centre and we need a space where we can build a bigger centre for the children. We are appealing to the community to come and support the fun run,” said Ms Lebepe.

Ms Lebepe said they are also inviting former pupils from Matsheko Early Learning Centre to take part.

The fun run is targeting children from five to 15 years old, and youngster who are 16 and older.

The registration for the fun run is open and will close on the day of the event.
