No medal but great times
The whole experience has motivated him to train harder and hopefully to be selected for future prestigious events
AQUATIC Academy swimmer Clayton Malaza might not have won a medal at the Golfinhos Sprint Swim Gala in Maputo, but he returned home with new personal best times.
The Golfinhos Sprint Gala is part of the Libombo region Tri-nations Sprint Gala, in which clubs from Mozambique, South Africa and Swaziland take part. This year’s meeting also marked the celebration of the host club’s (Golfinhos) 20th birthday.
The champs took place at the beautiful Zimpeto Olympic Pool – one of the most modern swimming venues in Africa.
Following a successful gala in Durban, Clayton managed to once again lower his times, achieving three new personal bests in all four events that he swam.
In the 100m breaststroke, he qualified with a 1:23.09 time and finished on 1:19.86. He swam a 34.36 for the 50m backstroke; 28.59 for the 50m freestyle and 1:03.72 for the 100m freestyle.
The whole experience has motivated him to train harder and hopefully to be selected for future prestigious events.
Other Academy swimmers who were also selected to represent Eastern Gauteng at the Maputo gala but couldn’t attend, were Savannah Mitchell, Murray Copeland and Kyle Mckenzie.
