1-0 victory for Mayibuye Classic

Mayibuye classic FC conquers in a top-8 tournament.

A two-day soccer tournament that kicked off on Saturday ended with the Mayibuye Classic FC conquering the best.

Eight teams battled it out on the dusty grounds to take home a R3 500 first prize in the Top-8 tournament.

“Our first game was a walk over. In the first 10 minutes we scored two goals in the first half and in the 20th minute we secured a third goal,” said Mayibuye Classic FC’s coach Katlego “Skop” Mthombeni.

He said in the second half Mayibuye Classic FC scored the fourth goal in the 70th minute of the game.

“In the 80th minute we conceded a goal, bringing the score to 4-1,” said Skop.

Players who scored the four goals for Mayibuye Classic FC were Bafana “Gusheshe” Masango who scored the first goal. Lighton “Musona” Tomu scored the second goal while Xolani “3minutes” Mazibuko brought home the third goal. Tsholofelo Sekole scored the final fourth goal of the first game, which saw Mayibuye Classic FC proceeding to the next level.

“In Mayibuye Classic FC’s second game, which was played on Sunday against Klipfontein FC, we won 2-0. It was a strong team and we had to defend a lot,” said coach Skop.

He said at the end of the first half the score was 0-0. He had to change the formation and implement substitutions.

“I changed from a 4-4-2 formation to a 3-5-2 formation and beefed up my attacking players. I took out Thando Mbali and put in Bafana “Gusheshe” Masango,” said coach Skop.

Lesedi “Bav” Lekoadu sustained an injury and Lighton “Musona” Tomu took to the pitch to replace him.

Mayibuye Classic FC emerged victorious in the second game and proceeded to the finals.

In the final game Mayibuye Classic FC locked horns with Inter Milan FC.

“The game was too competitive and our opponent was a strong team. We lacked in the midfield due to injuries sustained by players. We played most of our balls on the wings,” said Skop.

In the 20th minute after the match kicked off, Mayibuye Classic FC’s Sifso “Torres” Dlamini scored the first and winning goal of the game.

“In the first half we dominated the game and in the second half we were defending because we were under pressure and we were leading 1-0,” said Skop.

At the end of the final game, both teams failed to secure additional goals.

The match ended with Mayibuye Classic FC winning 1-0.

“We are underdogs whenever we play against teams,” said Skop.

He said this was their last tournament in Gauteng. Mayibuye Classic FC will play in the December Mapalies tournament in Limpopo at Botokwa from December 24 to December 28.
