National coaches at local gym’s athletics day
The gym is bringing sports coaches and athletes such as Jonathan Greyvenstein and Elizna Naudé
International coaches will be gracing Virgin Active Glen Acres’ upcoming mini athletics open day.
Scheduled to take place on January 28, the purpose of the day is to acknowledge the sports talent in the Kempton community.
“This will be a way of giving back to the community that supports us as Virgin Active, by inviting international athletics coaches and athletes to assist the athletes on how to prepare for the season inside the gym and outside on the field,” Khosi Kumbe, sales consultant, said.
“The gym is bringing sports coaches and athletes such as Jonathan Greyvenstein, who is well known for high jump in South Africa. and discus thrower Elizna Naudé, who is known for the 64.87m record she set.”
The gym has also invited long-distance runner Wilfred Sabota and shot-putter Yolandi Stander.
“We will also have motivational talks because we believe that everything begins in the mind, and motivating the athletes will also help in their performance.”
Big Brother in Rugby, a team formed to help less-privileged children, will also be participating in the event.
All athletes aged 15 to 18 are also invited to attend, but the gym requests that parents accompany their children and bring along their birth certificates to have access to the premises.
Adults must come with their ID books or driver’s licence to get the access to the club.
Parents, teachers and sports coaches are welcome to attend the event. Everybody is invited – Virgin Active members and non-members.
The event will take place on January 28 from 8am until 1pm at the Glen Acres Virgin Active.
