Tough last preparation for the Dusi

The FNB Dusi of 120km will start in Pietermaritzburg and end in Durban

VALLON Kupferberger, a seasoned paddler and member of ERK Canoe Club at Homestead Dam in Benoni, partnered with Nicholas James from Kempton Park to prepare for the upcoming FNB Dusi race from February 16 to18.

The Two Day Klip from Walkerville to the Vaal River provided some good pre-Dusi preparation, being some 70km, on the last weekend of January.

The river was in full flow after recent rainfalls in Gauteng, with wild white water, very tricky and technical, narrow, winding sections between and around trees and hopping out of the river for obstacles and back in again.

Despite numerous paddlers losing their paddles, or damaging their boats and being forced to withdraw, Kupferberger and James managed to finish the two-day challenging race successfully in a time of five hours 48 minutes, as the fourth veteran age category finishers.

The FNB Dusi of 120km will start in Pietermaritzburg and end in Durban, with a number of portages (running with boat).
