Lion Stars host sports day for homeless children
The purpose of the day was to educate the street children on crime and drugs

LION Star Development, together with Save the Seed, Warrior Angels of Light and the Local Drug and Alcohol Committee (LDAC), hosted a drug awareness event in the form of a sports day at the Ekurhuleni Artisan soccer field on Saturday.
Tembisa, Benoni and Kempton Park league teams played friendly soccer matches against each other.
“The turn-out was great, there were about 200 children. The day was successful and the children enjoyed it so much,” said event organiser, Jonathan Kabasele.
The purpose of the day was to engage with homeless children from Tembisa, Benoni and Kempton Park. The day aimed to give them hope and rehabilitate them so the future generation can be free from drugs and crime.
Metro police officer Bosimane spoke to the children about crime and the LDAC chairman, Thabo Vilakazi, about drug abuse.
Various members of non-governmental organisations, faith-based organisations, the metro police, the department of social development, department of education and sports organisations were present to assist the homeless children with the services they offer, such as youth and education programmes and rehabilitation.

Food and drinks were also provided by various community members and packs with blankets and toiletries were given to street children.
“From Lion Star Development we would like to thank the stakeholders and individuals who made it possible for the event to be a success. Red Alert, LDAC, the EMPD, Kids Haven, View Tigers FC, Winnie UTD, Angelina Tsepetsi, Puncho Morajane, Pastor Prince from True Worth church and the whole community. This outreach event also set out a platform for Lion Star’s upcoming community shield cup which will involve local teams and schools with one message, ‘No to drugs’,” said Kabasele.
Lion Star Development is asking the community’s help, donations or assistance with regards to transport costs to play their league matches in Tembisa every weekend.
