Youngsters beat older team mates
The under-15 team teaches their older brother a lesson.
Lesibe Academy recently witnessed a clash of two of its divisions which proved that skill has nothing to do with age, but rather with dedication.
The academy’s U/15s locked horns with the U/17 team to convince their head coach that, although sidelined, they were still a force to be reckoned with.
U/15 coach Mr Xolani Khoza said the academy’s director and head coach had faith in the U/17 team.
“The U/15’s captain approached management with a complaint and he demanded his team be given a chance. The director said, ‘Prove yourself’ and this match was set up to prove that the U/15 players were ready to earn the academy some respect by beating other clubs,” said Mr Khoza.
Nothing could deter the youngsters, who were hellbent on teaching their older brothers a lesson they would never forget.
When the whistle blew for the kick-off, it was dark already and that forced the director to award the match only 50 minutes playing time instead of 90 minutes.
In the first half of the game Mpho “Casto” Maja scored a goal after 15 minutes, which put the U/17s in the lead.
“My U/15s made a mistake and got punished when we conceded a goal which brought the score to 2 -0 in favour of the U/17s,” said U/15 coach Mr Khoza.
“During half-time break I had to fix those mistakes and strategise. In the second half we earned a free kick and Sibahle “Gyhma” Booi didn’t let that chance go to waste when he scored a goal for the U/15s.”
The score was now 2 -1 and the U/15s started to push their opponents back into their half of the playing field and dismantled their defence by putting more pressure on them.
“As a result we got another free kick and Gyhma gave a beautiful square pass and created a goal that Doctor Tladi finished off, bringing the score to 2-2,” said Mr Khoza.
“The U/17 team did a foul when they mistakenly gave us the ball when they were awarded a throw-in by the referee and we did not hesitate to use the blunder to our advantage. Baleseng Malete took the chance and scored our winning goal,” said Mr Khoza.
The final score was 3-2 in favor of the young champions, the U/15s of the Lesibe Academy.
