Karate kid and dad off to nationals

Both were selected for the Gauteng team

A father and son will fly the flag high for Kempton Park Karate Academy over the next few weeks.

Sensei Joos Huyzers (40) and his son Etienne (10) took part in the Gauteng trials in Brakpan as members of the Ekurhuleni team.

Etienne came first in kumite (free fighting) and Joos second in kata (forms).

Both were selected for the Gauteng team and will competing in their respective national tournaments.

Joos took part in the category for veterans 35-49 years and his son in boys 10-11 years under 30kg.

Etienne will compete on March 3 and 4 in KZN and Joos on March 17 and 18 in Bellville in the Cape.
