Sir Pierre teacher gets bronze at world championships

She also came in 5th place in the 2000m steeple chase and 5000m track running races

SIR Pierre Van Ryneveld teacher Mariet Geyer came third at the World Masters Athletics Championships in November.

Geyer, an LO teacher at the school, walked away with a bronze medal in the 10 000m track race at the championships in Perth, Australia, where she spent 12 days.

She also participated in the 2 000m steeplechase and 5 000m track races, where she placed fifth in both challenges.

Her former coach, Glen van der Westhuizen, helped her prepare for the intense competition.

Geyer, who has been running since she was seven years old, says she is grateful to God for all her gifts and being able to achieve such good results in the competition.

“All glory goes to God. I trust in Him and thank Him for all He does in my life,” Geyer said.

She has also competed in numerous Comrades and cross-country races.
